Queer Female Characters In "Wynonna Earp" Will Be Alive At The End Of Season 1

Writer and producer of the Wynonna Earp series promises both queer characters do not die at the end of the first season.

After the disappearance of at least 16 TV's queer female characters from the beginning of the year, writer and producer Emily Andras had to do something she described as unprecedented, and this is perhaps the first time in the history of TV series that a team member of a series is found to officially announce that the queer female characters, Nicole and Waverly, will not be killed.

She has told BuzzFeed News: "We did something really unprecedented, something I've never done ever on a show.

"Given the year the LGBT community has had, we actually went on the record and made a comment that Nicole and Waverly are alive at the end of the season. …If you care to get involved with this couple, I just want to let you know - their hearts are still beating by the end of this year."

Also questioned on the issue, the two actresses interpreting the roles of Nicole and Waverly, said they were happy to provide this relationship to the LGBTQ community.

"I feel very privileged to be playing a character that's affecting people so much," Barrell told BuzzFeed News.

Provost-Chalkley also said she was "really happy to give the LGBT community a relationship to hold onto."

Of course we do not know if there will be a second season yet and if the story between these two women will be continued.

"Wynonna Earp", as the name suggests, is based on the comic book series of the same name by Beau Smith, this is a Canadian Western horror series that airs on Syfy and "follows Wyatt Earp's great granddaughter as she battles demons and other creatures. With her unique abilities, and a posse of dysfunctional allies, she's the only thing that can bring the paranormal to justice."

What is interesting for us is the relationship that progressively develops in season 1 between sheriff's deputy Nicole Haught (Katherine Barelles) and Waverly (Dominique Provost-Chalkley), Wynonna's sister.

During this season, you can see a flirtatous Nicole attempting to ask a clumsy Waverly out on a date, but she refuses at first because she has a boyfriend.

A new episode of "Wynonna Earp" airs tonight on Syfy at 10PM. The entire season is available for replay on the website of the channel: http://www.syfy.com/wynonnaearp/episodes
