Save An Important LGBTQ Archive By Adopting A Tape

Written by

At present, in Canada, it is rather easy to access a LGBT content whether on TV, with the LGBT channel OUTtv, or online. But in the 80s, everything was different until the first gay and lesbian television show "Gayblevision" is created. Today, all the stories, photos, documents, movies ... are endangered unless you adopt a tape.

Co-founded by media producer, writer, and LGBT advocate Mary Anne McEwen, now deceased, "Gayblevision" has existed for six years, from 1980 to 1986.

It was Canada's first gay and lesbian show offering meetings with LGBT individuals, organizations, businesses and events.

Many of the tapes on which are stored the contents were digitized in 2010 when McEwen joined the VIVO Media Arts Center in Vancouver but unfortunately she died shortly after and the digitization and the donation to the Crista Dahl Media Library and Archive could not be completed.

VIVO has launched a fundraising campaign to raise money for the preservation of this LGBT heritage. We can make a donation, choosing what you want to save, up to $125, the price necessary to save one tape.

For more information about the "Adopt-A-Tape" campaign, visit VIVO and the page dedicated to "Gayblevision" Legacy Fund: http://www.vivomediaarts.com/gayblevision-legacy-fund/http://www.vivomediaarts.com/gayblevision-legacy-fund/
