Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, the story of The Favourite takes place in England in the early eighteenth century. According to the synopsis, England is at war with the French. Nevertheless, duck racing and pineapple eating are thriving. A frail Queen Anne (Olivia Colman) occupies the throne and her close friend Lady Sarah (Rachel Weisz) governs the country in her stead while tending to Anne's ill health and mercurial temper. When a new servant Abigail (Emma Stone) arrives, her charm endears her to Sarah. Sarah takes Abigail under her wing and Abigail sees a chance at a return to her aristocratic roots. As the politics of war become quite time consuming for Sarah, Abigail steps into the breach to fill in as the Queen's companion. Their burgeoning friendship gives her a chance to fulfill her ambitions and she will not let woman, man, politics or rabbit stand in her way.
Here is the trailer in which we discover a certain tension between Sarah and Abigail who quarrel with the Queen's affections:
“It’s as though we think we invented sex, but we didn’t, it’s been going on for quite a long time,” Coleman told Reuters.
“And it was awfully fun having sex with Emma Stone,” she added.
“It was really fun having sex with you too,” responded Stone.
The Favourite is highly anticipated. People are already talking about possible Oscar nominations. The film will be released on November 23 in the United States. For more release dates, consult the following page: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5083738/releaseinfo?ref_=tt_dt_dt
