22 Democratic state representatives from Texas endorsed Lupe Valdez in her race for governor.

Lupe Valdez, the Dallas-based lesbian sheriff, is running for governor of Texas. She must first win the runoff that will be held on May 22. She faces the candidate Andrew White. Valdez has received the support of 22 Democratic state representatives out of 55 in Texas. Almost half. It's a good start. I hope others will be added to the list.

In the March 6 primary, Valdez won 10 of the 15 largest counties in Texas and ran 16 points ahead of White in a nine-candidate race as reports The Chronicle.

If she is selected as the Democrat candidate, she will face current Governor Greg Abbott.

"Lupe's message represents a new Texas built on opportunity and fairness, values that resonate with so many individuals across our great state," Anchia said in a statement. "Working together, we will continue to build momentum and bring meaningful change to Texas."

Here is the list of the 22 Democratic state representatives: Reps. Roberto Alonzo, Rafael Anchía,Victoria Neave and Toni Rose of Dallas; Diana Arévalo, Diego Bernal, Ina Minarez and Justin Rodriguez of San Antonio; César Blanco, Mary Gonzales and Evelina Ortega of El Paso; Terry Canales of Edinburg; Nicole Collier of Fort Worth; Jessica Farrar and Ron Reynolds of Houston; Ryan Guillen of Rio Grande City; Gina Hinojosa, Celia Israel and Eddie Rodriguez of Austin; Mando Martinez of Weslaco; Sergio Muñoz of Palmview, and Poncho Nevárez of Eagle Pass.
