A Challenge Against The Equal Marriage Ban Was Launched In Alabama

Written by

A lawsuit was filed against the marriage equality ban in Alabama by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and a lesbian couple married in Massachusetts. The couple is seeking recognition of their union in the state.

Two other trials are already underway. A challenge was launched by a lesbian couple from Mobil and also by a man from Montgomery.

Attorney General of Alabama Luther Strange has already announced he will defend the marriage equality ban.

«As attorney general, I will vigorously defend the traditional definition of marriage as between one man and one woman,» Strange said in a statement.

«That has been the definition of marriage for the history of Western civilization, and Alabamians overwhelmingly voted to incorporate it into our laws.»
