Broward County Judge Ruled Unconstitutional The Equal Marriage Ban Of Florida

Written by

Broward County

A new county of Florida has just repealed the equal marriage ban!

Broward Circuit Court Judge Dale Cohen declared the ban unconstitutional. This decision follows the case of two women who wanted to divorce, registered in a civil union in Vermont since 2002, they couldn't divorce because of the marriage equality ban in Florida. They therefore brought their case before a court on 4 August.

Judge Cohen, however, suspended his decision pending an appeal, but in another state, the same decision of a judge is also on hold until January 5. If no appeal is made by that date, the same-sex couples could get marriage licenses from January 6, previously married couples will be recognized by the state of Florida and the female couple can finally divorce.
