Indeed, the Democratic party invested gay representative Jarod Polis to become governor of Colorado. Polis is one of seven LGBT members of the American Congress. He will face Walker Stapleton.
In Oregon, current governor Kate Brown is trying to keep her job. Brown had become the first bisexual governor in 2017. She had succeeded Governor John Kitzhaber after he resigned. She hopes to continue her mission in Oregon and she's actually in a very good position to win a full four-year term.
Former Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez won the Democratic primary in the race to become the governor of Texas.
Valdez won with 53.1% of the votes against 46.9% for his competitor Andrew White.
In a statement after her victory, Valdez said, "Tonight is a victory for all of us who are fighting for a stronger and fairer Texas. A tolerant and diverse Texas. A Texas where the everyday person has a voice and a fair shot -- just as I had."
Valdez added that the victory "proved that no matter who you are, where you are from, or who you love -- in this state, you've got a fighting chance."
She now finds herself confronting incumbent Republican Governor Greg Abbott. The battle will be difficult but Valdez knows it. She said, "I am constantly hearing this is an uphill battle. Please -- tell me when I didn't have an uphill battle. I am getting darn good at uphill battles."
Lupe Valdez became the first lesbian and Latina candidate to win a major primary in the Texas governorship race. This victory follows a wave of significant victories of Democratic women.
It only remains to wait for the outcome of the elections to see if the LGBT history will be marked again.
