Alabama: Mobile County Officials Resumed The Issuing Of Marriage Equality Licenses

Written by

Despite an order of the Supreme Court of Alabama and Judge Roy Moore which indicates to officials of the state that not issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples is a "ministerial duty," Mobile county officials resumed issuing of licenses, accepting all couples.

After "further review of what the law is," Mobile County Probate Court Chief Clerk Joe McEarchern Jr. took the decision not to discriminate against same-sex couples.

Madison and Laurent  counties, which had initially suspended issuing of same-sex marriage licenses, has resumed after taking advice from legal counsel.

Let's hope others follow, there are 67 counties in the state of Alabama.
