At 26, Allison becomes a senator and although she confessed to having doubts about her chances, she won with brilliance!
She beat Republican Brian O’Hara in a special election to replace the vacant senate seat by Dan Newberry.
Allison is lesbian. She is the second gay senator in the Oklahoma legislature since Kay Floyd was elected in 2014. Allison was a therapist in a non-profit mental health agency. She is married and has three children.
Following the election, the reactions are positive. The executive director of Oklahoman’s for Equality, Toby Jenkins, praised the victory. He said it was a historic step and a source of inspiration for LGBT youth in the state.
She will take up her position on February 1, 2018. Dan Newberry is still in office until January 31.
