"I am happy to give my fellow veteran that small peace of mind," retired U.S. Army Colonel Barry Johnson wrote in an open letter published on Wednesday in the Idaho Statesman newspaper. "And I do it to honor all the great Americans I've served with along the way - gay, straight, whatever."
It is not known yet if Madelynn will accept it AND if the cemetery will allow this or continue to discriminate her under pretext that there is no equal marriage law in Idaho.
For information, Madelynn had been a victim of the “Don't Ask, Don't Tell” policy. After years of service within the navy, she had been fired for homosexuality so I really hope that this story will finish well.
