This bill, presented by Senator Pat Steadman, will be studied by the lawmakers in the next months, after a big study on the subject carried out by the Senator as The Colorado Independent reports.
“Civil unions will allow committed couples to share in the responsibilities and protections in Colorado law that most families take for granted,” he said in a release. “Our society is stronger when we promote personal responsibility and taking care of one another, and civil unions do just that.”
Colorado prohibited gay marriage in 2006 with the amendment 13 (=marriage is only between a man and a woman).
Studies recently showed that 72% of people living in Colorado are in favor of the civil unions.
