Democrat Senators And Representatives Introduced A Bill To Permanently Repeal DOMA

Written by

DOMA

Will DOMA be finally completely repealed?

We often forget that the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) still exists. Certainly, Section 3, which defined marriage as a union between only a man and a woman was considered unconstitutional by the Supreme Court of the United States, which allowed these legalizations of marriage equality across the United States in 2014, but DOMA is still there.

This is why the Democrats launched an attempt to repeal it.

"We must finish the job begun by the Supreme Court by passing the Respect for Marriage Act," Jerrold Nadler, one of the sponsor of the bill, told the Huffington PostHuffington Post.

"The bill provides a uniform rule for recognizing couples under federal law, ensuring that lawfully married couples will be recognized under federal law no matter where they live and guaranteeing that all families can plan for a future of mutual obligation and support with confidence."

Because at present, the policy remains an obstacle to the federal equal marriage.
