Democrats Representatives And Senators Are Launching A Resolution To Legalize Marriage Equality In Michigan

Written by

Eight Democrats in the House and in the Senate said they would try to repeal the equal marriage ban of Michigan by proposing a vote of the electors.

They argue that «it is time to get rid of our ban on same-sex marriage,» as said so well Democratic Rep. Jeremy Moss.

The Democrats will therefore introduce a resolution which has to be approved by a two-thirds majority in each legislative chamber. Not so easy. Only then it will be submitted to the electors.

However, in parallel, a federal judge in Detroit called the ban in Michigan unconstitutional last year. Attorney General Bill Schuette had immediately appealed this decision. So it is still awaiting the outcome of the appeal.

And, of course, there is also the U.S. Supreme Court which must begin to hear oral arguments on marriage equality on April 28.
