Federal Judge To Hear Arguments Against Nevada Gay Marriage Ban On November 26

Written by

A new battle for gay marriage right begins in Nevada. Last Friday, a federal judge of Nevada decided to hear arguments of a pro-gay group which is opposed to the ban of marriage equality in the state.

Lambda Legal filed a lawsuit in April on behalf of eight Nevada couples to make a direct state marriage equality claim in a federal court. According to Associated Press, the lawsuit focuses on differences between rights granted by the state Legislature with a domestic partnership law in 2009 and a gay marriage ban that voters made part of the state constitution in 2002.

U.S. District Chief Judge Robert Jones decided that the hearing will begin on November 26th.

His decision follows on from other battles against gay marriage ban in other American states like California.
