Governor of Louisiana John Bel Edwards fights to reinstate protection for LGBT people

Governor of Louisiana John Bel Edwards is trying to reinstate the LGBT protections that were abolished a few months ago.

Last December, the Democratic Governor promulgated an order protecting LGBT people from discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. Opponents have launched a lawsuit. They consider that Edwards has attempted to change the state's constitution.

Judge Todd Hernandez later ruled that the LGBT protection order was unconstitutional. He found that the order broadened rights in the State. For Judge Hernandez, the governor exceeded his authority.

Governor Edwards appealed the judge's decision and last week the court of appeals heard the arguments.

For now, the panel of judges did not issue a verdict.
