Idaho House approves updated tax rules to include same-sex couples

The Idaho House Revenue and Taxation Committee approved HB 26 to conform with the new federal rules that recognize same-sex marriages.

Each year the Legislative Assembly decides to bring the state’s tax code in line with federal rules, which is easier for residents and businesses.

It is time for the tax authorities to consider married LGBT couples as marriage equality is now legal at a federal level.

This year, the Assembly is due to debate the issue of equality of marriage following the request of the Idaho Tax Commission.

Note that the state's constitution still includes a language prohibiting marriage equality, while the Supreme Court of the United States invalidated Idaho's marriage equality ban in 2014.

There is still the Senate approval to get.
