Illinois Marriage Equality Law To Be Introduced In January 2013

Written by

Let's go! The fight for marriage equality in Illinois starts!

Thursday, Sen. Heather Steans and Rep. Greg Harris unveiled plans to take up the issue during the closing days of the current General Assembly before a new set of lawmakers is sworn in Jan. 9 reports Chicago Tribune.

Illinois allows civil unions since last year. The defenders of the law think that it is the good moment to push a marriage equality law especially since Maine, Maryland and Washington's voters passed it.

To be adopted, the law will need 60 votes in the House and 30 votes in the Senate.

The good news is that one already knows that Governor Quinn will sign the law.
