International Gay And Lesbian Association Obtained United Nations Consultative Status

The international association of gays and lesbians (ILGA) gained the accreditation of the United Nations.

The group expected this since several years. It became a consulting for the United Nations Economic and Social Council by a vote of 30-16.
The co-secretary, the general Renato Sabbadini qualified this day as "historic" for the organization.


To give you an idea, here are the countries which were for, against or which abstained to vote:

FOR: India, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Malta, Mexico, Mongolia, Nicaragua, Norway, Peru, Republic of Korea, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States, Venezuela, Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Chile, Ecuador, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary.

AGAINST: Iraq, Morocco, Namibia, Pakistan, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Bangladesh, Cameroon, China, Egypt, Ghana

ABSTENTIONS: Guatemala, Islands Maurice, Philippines, Rwanda, Bahamas, Ivory Coast
