It's official! Cynthia Nixon entered the race to become governor of New York

A third lesbian has entered the race to become governor of a state. Actress Cynthia Nixon officially launched her campaign to become the new governor of New York.

The rumor proved true. A few months ago, I announced a possible candidacy for Cynthia Nixon to replace Andrew Cuomo as governor of New York. Nixon has announced her candidacy via Twitter:

"I love New York, and today I'm announcing my candidacy for governor. Join us: http://bit.ly/gocynthia"

If elected, Nixon would become the first female governor and also the first gay governor of New York.

But that won't be easy. She will have to win the Democratic primary. Nixon will be opposed to Governor Cuomo. And a first poll from Siena College announced Cuomo victorious with 66% votes against 19% for Nixon.

In the campaign video launched a few days ago, candidate Nixon said that it was time to change things:

“New York is where I was raised, and where I’m raising my kids,” she says in the video in which you can see and her family. “I’m a proud public school graduate. And a prouder public school parent. I was given chances I just don’t see for New York’s kids today.

“Half the kids in our upstate cities live below the poverty line. How did we let this happen? I love New York. I’ve never wanted to live anywhere else. But something has to change.”

Cynthia Nixon becomes the third lesbian to run for governorship after Lupe Valdez in Texas and Kelly Fryer in Arizona.
