Judge Refused To Block Wisconsin's Marriage Equality Ban Before The Lawsuit Starts

Written by

ACLU, the American Civil Liberties Union, which launched a challenge against the marriage equality ban in Wisconsin with four gay and lesbian couples, asked a federal judge to temporarily block this marriage ban, the time that the lawsuit starts.

But U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb refused this request saying an injunction would be immediately challenged, likely leading to a stay of the order, as reports the Journal Sentinelthe Journal Sentinel.

The constitutional amendment which prohibits same-sex marriage was approved by referendum in 2006.

Recently, ACLU, following the example of other states, decided to bring this matter to court in order that finally same-sex couples of Wisconsin can be recognized and benefit from marriage rights.

The court should hear the case at the end of March.
