The Municipal Council of Kansas City approved an ordinance to extend pension benefits to same-sex couples.

In 2004, the city already offered the same benefits as health insurance, sick leave or funeral leave, to partners of same-sex city employees.

Unanimously, the council also brought equality in pension benefits.

Besides the city received the 2014 Optimas Award for Benefits.
