Lambda Legal sues the Education and Justice Departments

Lambda Legal filed a complaint against the Education and Justice departments. It requests explanations on their policy against transgender students.

The departments "pulled the rug out from under transgender students," says Lambda Legal's Susan Sommer.

According to a press release from the group, the Departments of Education and Justice did not comply with the request of Lambda Legal. Indeed, the group wished to have access to the documents about these policies.

The request included "correspondence with any groups outside the government, communications with the President’s staff, and instructions to staff about how to handle inquiries and complaints about discrimination, bullying, and harassment based on gender identity or transgender status."

The Freedom of Information Act authorizes them to have access to these documents.

The departments acknowledged that they had received the request from Lambda Legal. One can then wonder why they refuse to communicate the documents.
