Illinois lawmakers have voted in favor of the LGBT-inclusive history in public schools.

The Education Committee has approved the measure with an 8-2 vote. Illinois could become the second state to teach LGBT individuals and history after California.

"People need to see their history to understand that they are a part of our society," Illinois State Senator Heather Steans said after sponsoring the bill.

Teaching LGBT history in Illinois public schools could become a reality soon.
