LGBT Rights And The New Platforms Of Texas And Indiana Republican Party

Following conventions to determine the new platforms of the Republican party in Indiana and in Texas, two victories in favour of LGBT rights took place even if one will note a worrying change in Texas.

In spite of a first victory which removed the following language from the platform: "homosexuality tears at the fabric of society," the Texas Republican party decided to concentrate its efforts towards the anti-gay therapy.

The new platform of the Texas GOP recognizes from now on "the legitimacy and efficacy of counseling, which offers reparative therapy and treatment for those patients seeking healing and wholeness from their homosexual lifestyle," though the American Psychological Association and other health organizations condemned and alerted on the dangerousness of this practice.

In Indiana, another victory also took place. Indeed, an attempt to change a definition of the marriage in the platform of the Indiana Republican party failed.

As Miami Herald reports it, the language defines marriage as between a man and a woman but also recognizes that other nontraditional families make valuable contributions to society. This of course leaves the open door to the same-sex marriage.

As a result, a group of pure conservatives wanted to harden this definition but failed.
