Liberty Ridge Farm Was Sentenced To Pay A Fine For Discriminating A Lesbian Couple

In October 2012, Cynthia and Robert Gifford, Liberty Ridge FarmLiberty Ridge Farm owners in Schaghticoke, New York, opposed the celebration of a lesbian wedding in their establishment because of their religious conviction.

Melisa and Jennifer McCarthy had filed a complaint so that it does not happen again.

The trial has just ended, and good news! Melisa and Jennifer won! Liberty Ridge Farm was sentenced to pay a fine of $ 13,000 for discrimination ($ 10,000 for the state and $ 3,000 for Melisa and Jennifer).

Indeed, even if the company identifies as a Christian company and the New York State protects religious institutions, it doesn't protect public companies to discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation.

The Giffords tried to defend themselves but several comments on their Facebook page showed that the McCarthys were apparently not the first couple to be discriminated.

Today, the company suffered financial difficulties because many customers didn't like the Giffords' way of thinking.

They come to appeal the decision.
