New York lawmakers have approved a law that will prevent access by minors to therapies to “cure” gay people.

By a 86-28 vote, legislators have decided that children under 18 could not access to such “reparative” practices.

"Being an LGBT young person isn’t an illness that needs to be cured," Senator Brad Hoylman, sponsor of the legislation in the Senate and openly gay, said.

"Banning conservation therapy is a nonpartisan issue that should receive full consideration by my colleagues in the Senate."

Similar laws have been approved in California and New Jersey.
