North Dakota Will Not Make Any Changes To Include Same-Sex Couples

Written by

The North Dakota Senate rejected the proposal to change marriage references to include same-sex couples.

The measure that would have changed the terms "man, woman" or "husband, wife" by gender-neutral terms was not approved by the Senate controlled by the Republicans by a 15-31 vote despite the approval of the Senate Judiciary Committee earlier this month.

North Dakota, therefore, does not reflect either the decision of the US Supreme Court to allow marriage to all couples at the national level or the decision of a federal North Dakota judge to regard the prohibition of equal marriage as unconstitutional.
