"It’s time!" she said in her sermon. "I have been an ordained United Methodist Church pastor for 25 years. At last, I am choosing to serve in that role with full authenticity, as my genuine self, a woman who loves and shares my life with another woman."
For now, the reaction to this announcement was somewhat positive, hope she keeps her job. Normally, the United Methodist Church prohibits not only LGBT pastors, but is also firmly opposed to same sex marriage. Meyer says she is ready to face the consequences.
The good news is that there are more and more church members supported measures changes. A general conference has to be organized in May during which the issue of LGBT pastors and acceptance of marriage equality will be addressed.
