President Donald Trump signed the executive order to expand religious freedom.

This order will allow:

  • churches to engage in political activities without losing their tax exemptions
  • companies not to provide birth control for employees if they do not wish to
  • protection for all those who invoke religion to practice their profession
  • It also speaks to a mandate under the Affordable Care Act to provide contraception, directing the Treasury, Labor, and Health and Human Services departments to "consider issuing amended regulations, consistent with applicable law, to address conscience-based objections to the preventive-care mandate," according to Buzzfeed.

Civil rights groups warned the Trump administration that if this order targeted our community, they would have prosecuted. So contrary to what some people wanted, the order does not clearly target LGBTQ people.

The ACLU said the "executive order signing is an elaborate photo-op with no discernible policy outcome." Even so, it is not less dangerous. The vaguer a law is, the more it applies to a large number of cases.
