Starkville, Mississippi And Winston-Salem, North Carolina To Offer More Benefits To Their LGBT Employees

Written by

Two new cities will provide more benefits to LGBT city employees.

First, the city of Starkville, Mississippi, became the first in the state to offer the same protection to all residents. The measure was approved by the Starkville Board of Aldermen unanimously.

Then the city of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, is also preparing to offer the equal health benefits but with a small difference. Indeed, officials in this city will recognize all married couples, despite the ban on marriage equality in North Carolina, to allow LGBT employees to enroll their spouses and children in all city employee benefits.

This means that if you are currently married to someone of the same sex, and have a valid marriage license from any state or U.S. jurisdiction, you can enroll your same sex spouse and children in all city benefits Caruth told employees in the letter, according to the Winston-Salem Journal.
