The Administration Of Foothill High School Rejects The Nomination Of A Lesbian Couple As Prom Queens Because This Is "Unfair To The Boys"

While students of the Foothill High School in Palo Cedro, California had nominated a lesbian couple as prom queens, the school administration found this nomination unacceptable because "unfair to the boys".

Indeed, Hayley Lack (pictured), 16, and her girlfriend were nominated for prom court by the students to represent them. However, after discovering this, the administration has opposed this choice by saying firstly that this wouldn't be "fair to the boy gender" if they run as a couple. In short, false excuses to justify blatant discrimination.

School students have launched a petition which collected a hundred signatures yet. They demand equality both between men and women, and between straight and same-sex couples.

"The students and myself believe that there was equal opportunity for both males and females because every senior had the ability to be nominated, " said Lack.

"We are asking for anyone, regardless of gender, to be able to win king or queen. With that, they would have equal opportunity."

A similar case took place in Boulder, Colorado and as a result of dissatisfaction of students and media coverage, the Niwot High School decided to back off and allowed the lesbian couple to take part in prom elections. They won!

We hope the same for Hayley and her girlfriend. The American Civil Liberties Union is looking into the situation.
