The Equal Marriage Ban In Florida Will Remain At Least Until January 5

Written by

In Florida, the stay on marriage equality was extended by District Judge Robert L. Hinkle until January 5th.

"We are disappointed that the day in which all Florida families are treated with fairness and dignity under the law is not happening sooner, but that day is still coming," Daniel Tilley, an attorney for the ACLU of Florida, which originally filed the federal lawsuit on behalf of eight same-sex couples and LGBT-rights group SAVE, told The Tampa Bay Times.

Last August, the judge Hinkle ruled the equal marriage ban in Florida as unconstitutional. Governor Rick Scott and Attorney General Pam Bondi had then appealed the decision to the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals.
