The New Governor Of Louisiana John Bel Edwards To Ban Some Anti-LGBT Discriminations

Written by

John Bel Edwards

Newly elected Governor of Louisiana, John Bel Edwards announced that one of his first actions would be to issue a decree to prohibit anti-LGBTQ discrimination.

For the moment, no protection exists in Louisiana for our community. Democratic governor Edwards, who will take office in January, decided to remedy this by preventing yet discrimination and harassment of LGBTQ state employees and government contractors.

"Elections have consequences. Our mission to ensure that all people in Louisiana have legal protections against discrimination in the workplace continues, but this promised executive action is welcome news for LGBT state employees.

"We look forward to engaging with Gov-elect Edwards’ administration to ensure that appropriate policies are established in a timely manner once he takes office," said Equality Louisiana.

It is a big change since Edwards follows Governor Bobby Jindal, who is a staunch anti-LGBT activist.
