The Road To Same-Sex Civil Unions Is Open In Hawaii

Neil Abercrombie, a pro-gay candidate, was elected in Hawaii and this election paved the way for homosexual civil unions.

The Washington Post reports that voters gave the victory to Hawaii a candidate for governor of the pro-gay rights and rejected many candidates Church securities.

After a few years fighting for gay rights, and after in July Republican Gov. Linda Lingle has vetoed the bill, Hawaii is now on the path to become the sixth state to grant the same rights of marriage to gay and lesbian couples without authorizing marriage equality.

"I'm hopeful, but I would never want to call any shots until the final vote is taken," says Majority Leader Blake Oshiro, who is gay. "While I remain optimistic, there's still a lot of work to be done."
