Here's some good news from the United States, especially from Maryland and Hawaii. Senates from both states have approved a "gay conversion" therapies ban to protect LGBTQ minors.

In Maryland:

The Senate approved SB 1028. It will prohibit any attempt to "cure" the sexual orientation of LGBTQ youth. Now the House of Delegates has to vote and I hope there will be a positive outcome.

“This is a step forward for an important piece of legislation that protects LGBTQ youth from harmful and coercive practices,” said FreeState Justice Executive Director Mark Procopio. “We hope the House of Delegates will move quickly to make this law. Maryland’s LGBTQ youth deserve strong protections under state law. Prohibiting these practices moves us closer to that goal.”

In Hawaii:

The Senate has also passed SB 270 to ban the practice of "gay conversion" therapies for LGBT minors. There too, the House has to vote.

“We thank the state senators who voted to protect LGBTQ youth from the dangerous and inhumane practice of conversion therapy,” said HRC Legislative Counsel Xavier Persad. “Children across the Aloha State deserve to live their lives authentically, and they deserve to know that they are not broken or ill because of who they are. We are calling on the House of Representatives to swiftly pass this bill and send it to Governor David Ige’s desk for his signature.”

If Maryland and Hawaii sign the bill into law, they will join Connecticut, California, Nevada, New Jersey, the District of Columbia, Oregon, Illinois, Vermont, New York, New Mexico, and Rhode Island as well as cities and counties in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Washington, Florida, New York, and Arizona, which have approved similar measures.
