And one more victory in the United States! The governor of Washington has signed the law banning conversion therapies for LGBTQ+ minors.

Indeed, Governor of Washington, Jay Inslee, has signed Senate Bill 5722 into law. This makes it possible to prohibit conversion treatments for LGBTQ+ people under 18. This dangerous practice is also known as "reparative therapy" or "ex-gay cure".

The measure will come into effect from June.

Governor Inslee has qualified gay conversion therapy as "abuse".

He said: “We are today prohibiting the abuse of our children. We have always believed in civil rights in our state. We believe in tolerance for all.”

According to a recent report from the Williams Institute at UCLA School of Law, there are approximately 20,000 LGBTQ+ minors in unprotected states will be subjected to conversion therapy by a licensed healthcare professional if state lawmakers fail to act.

A new victory in the United States, that feels good right?
