Waveland Mayor David Garcia Became The First Mayor Of Mississippi To Support Marriage Equality

Written by

David Garcia

For the first time in Mississippi, a mayor officially supports marriage equality!

While Mississippi's cities like Starkville, Oxford, Hattiesburg, Jackson and Magnolia pass resolutions to protect LGBT people against discrimination, Waveland mayor David Garcia joined the campaign launched by Freedom to Marry adding his name to the list of many mayors in support of marriage equality.

"We know many people in loving and committed same-sex relationships who are active participants in improving our communities, and we've seen how important marriage has been for them and their families," Garcia said in a statement. "Because I believe in fairness for all American families, I support the freedom to marry for same-sex couples willing to take on that commitment."

This comes to block the "Religious Freedom Restoration Act" which allows companies to discriminate the LGBT customers as they see fit and adds to the "If You're Buying, We're Selling" campaign launched by companies who have no problem to serve LGBT people.

Anti-gay thought to win the battle with their religious protection, it is very far from being the case.
