Will the Governor of Tennessee veto the discriminatory bill SB 1085

Written by

Gov Haslam

In Tennessee, LGBT rights defenders are asking Governor Bill Haslam not to sign Senate Bill 1085 into law.

Indeed SB 1085 is a bill that the Senate of Tennessee has just approved and if signed, it could prevent recognition of same-sex couples' marriages and the true identity of a trans person by stating that any "undefined" words be given their "natural and ordinary meaning." And it would seem that many Tennessee laws use "undefined" words.

This bill is thus potentially discriminatory so many people are asking Governor Haslam to veto it.

The position of the governor was not precisely known. He had merely stated that he will defer to the will of the legislature, but will review it.
