ILGA Included Lesbian health Care In Its Report

Written by

ILGA

ILGA wants to clarify many false ideas on lesbian sexual health.

Researchers noted that available lesbian health information is full of stereotypes, false beliefs and prejudices sometimes led by the professionals of health care and the lesbians themselves, which block the acceptance of those in particular in African countries.

According to the report, lesbians have a tendency to consult their gynaecologists less often than heterosexual women, as gynaecological visits are associated with contraception and pregnancy. This lack of regular medical test allows the detection of STIs and certain cancers like breast cancer and cervical cancer.

The report emphasizes that this is why gynaecological tests are essential for all women, of all ages, whatever their sexual orientation.
